Meetings: The first regular meeting of the newly chartered VFW Auxiliary was conducted on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Colington Volunteer Fire Department. The Auxiliary is very active in community veteran activities and Post support functions. Come out and participate in shaping this organization! The monthly meetings are conducted on the second Monday of each month (except July and February); the next meeting will be on August 12th.
High School Patriotic Art Contest: The VFW Auxiliary sponsored the annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards contest, with annual prizes totaling almost $20,000.00. Select the button above for contest rules. There were entries submitted to the Auxiliary chapter by two area high schools. A judging panel of three local professional artists evaluated the projects on the following factors: Concept, Presentation, Patriotism Expressed, Clarity of Ideas, Elicitation of Emotion, Can It Stand on Its Own, Technique, Creativity, Contrast, and Total Impact of Work. The winning artist, Alyse Stewart of Manteo High School was awarded $150 and a certificate by the Auxiliary and the winning art was forwarded to the Department (State) competition. Second place artist, Hunter Freeman of Currituck High School was awarded $75 and a certificate by the Auxiliary.
Alyse's art was selected as the First Place Winner of the North Carolina Department competition and was forwarded to Orlando, Florida to compete at the VFW National Convention competition, where it was selected as SECOND PLACE NATIONAL WINNER ! Alyse will receive $7500 for her winning art. Congratulations Alyse!
